I am so happy every time I see this fellow sitting in his quiet space doing what he does.  If you’re doing the work meant for you, this is how you get to feel, and everyone should be.  This artist’s name is Jose, as a man from Portugal, who is a colleague of my husband’s is called Jose, and he inspired this work.

You are looking at the EXACT piece of art, front and back, that you are buying.  There is always one shot in a sample frame and always one shot in the plastic sleeve.

The framed image in the gallery is to show you what this would look like in a standard frame.  The frame is not for sale.

***Part of what makes my art accessible is that I don’t buy a bunch of expensive stuff to mount it.   It’s just cardstock and spray adhesive, so the art will curl up if you leave it unframed.  I deliberately produce stuff that can be put into very common size frames.  My secret for frames: go to the thrift store and buy frames used and then chuck out the art inside and wash the glass and end up with fabulous frames for which you’ll pay like $1. 

PHILOSOPHY BEHIND GYPSYFAITH FOLKART: My stuff is for you to USE.  My goal with my folkart is to create accessible (affordable!) beauty that makes you happy every time you see it.  All my stuff is completely handmade, so there are imperfections in it.  In my own home I leave literally no space undecorated.  I want to be saturated in beauty in the kitchen, in my basement, outside my house, and even in the closets; for me, every single wall space, particularly ceilings, is for art.

MOST of what I buy personally is folkart from street artists all over the world. I buy something when I can feel the artists’ heart in the work (kind of like I buy a song if it touches my heart, like that).  If their heart is in their work, I recognize it, and the work itself goes from cool/clever/pretty all the way to beautiful and I HAVE to have it.  It’s as much the person who built whatever I buy as it is the beauty of the piece that I want to access in my daily life.  I use art, I use it like I use vitamins, the ocean, the air.

Also, I am not into “precious” art.  I have some valuable pieces of art in my life, but, the moment something gets to be crazy valuable it’s hard to really USE it the way I use art, that is, to make it be central to my everyday life.  I want to see, touch, be near my art and not panic about others, especially children and guests, doing the same.

Use my stuff to make yourself happy, to embed your life in visual and spiritual joy!  That’s what it’s for.

DETAILS OF FOLKART:

PAPER:  All my art is printed on unique paper, normally antique book paper, but I also use newspaper and various other papers I collect.

MOUNTING: I mount the piece with simple spray adhesive on a cardstock backing that is flexible, not stiff.  You HAVE to frame my folkart once you get it because it will start to curl if you don’t, which would mean you’d have to flatten it under a book before framing it.

MATTING: I custom cut the mats freehand with a razor.  I employ replicated antique frontisepiece paper for mats. I print out my mats on photo paper.  I ink the inner edge of the mat.  My mats are completely hand cut and hand measured, meaning they are imperfect.  I never use a form, except with circle mats.  Expect there to be imperfections in my matting.

FRAMING:  I only sell the art, not the frame.  However, you MUST frame the art you buy here quickly as it will curl if you leave it unframed and then you’ll have to leave it under a book awhile to flatten it back out.

QUANTITY:  In every case there is only 1 of these; you are buying the only one there will ever be.

SIZE: I usually create art that fits in standard American frames: 3 x 5 inches, 4 x 6 inches, 5 x 7 inches, 8 x 10 inches, and then circle and square mats that are both 4 x 4 inches.  Every piece has the size listed in the title.

PACKAGING: I pack unframed art in cardboard so that it stays stiff on its way to you, but once you unpack it, you have to frame it because it will curl if you leave it unframed.

PRICES: A minimum order of $2 is required for any purchase. We charge .35 cents per entire order to cover our costs with the credit card processor so that we can charge only exactly what we think the item is worth.

ALL SHIPPING IS FREE.* Once purchased I will ship within 48 hours unless the weather interferes. We live on an island off the coast of northern Maine.  In winter we get loads of storms and on rare occasions mail isn’t able to come or go off island, though never for more than a few hours or one day.
