This mosaic represents 10 years of found material collecting and 3 years of my work in my free time. There is this story about a mythological non-feline panther that gorges itself and then sleeps three days and emerges amid a heavy perfume. The idea reminded me of Christ, so I built this panther about that myth. I outlined the panther in old Qatari Dao nails. Outside of our compound, in the desert, a local family had left a gigantic Dao ship and they were paying an Indian craftman to restore the boat. He would pull out these nails and dump them in the desert. I’d scurry out and collect them. Then I bent them a bit if their original distortion didn’t fit my work. I bought a few of the old red costume jewelry bits in this piece, but otherwise it’s entirely composed of found materials. Its the size of a very large front door. I reused a plywood shipping container from one of our moves as the foundation.
