Wenatchee’s Blue Seal Apples Wenatchee Northern Marketing Washington Fruit Label Sticker (FL13)
At the border of this perfect spot in Washington you used to be able to encounter a marvelous apple-shaped sign that announced, “Welcome to Wenatchee Apple Capital of the World”. That slogan has been continuously on the local newspaper’s masthead for nearly 100 years. Every single year since 1920 Wenatchee has hosted an Apple Blossom Festival, celebrating their favorite fruit. The word Wenatchee is Native American and means “great opening out of the mountain”. The town, though, had an ambitious group of businessmen promoting it in 1903 with the distribution of brochures that proclaimed Wenatchee “Home of the Big red Apple Where Money Grows on Trees”. Inside that brochure you can read their pitch, “This is a place to make money with less effort…an apple orchard provides as sure an income as government bonds…” How can you not love all of that flourish around the sturdy little apple?
