Verhampshire Brand Pure Peanut Butter CM Tice and Co. Boston Massachusetts Food Label Sticker (FD56)

Here in Tanzania peanut vendors have gigantic, shallow wooden carts.  They sell by the side of the road and roll the carts away at night.  The peanuts are harvested and then either roasted on an open fire or boiled.  You can buy a packet of peanuts wrapped in newspaper in the street for about .04 cents US.  Peanut butter, which is still mostly an American thing, was invented by Kellogg, the famous cereal guy, who felt strongly that meat protein was not healthy, particularly for the elderly.  The trouble with original peanut butter was the constant need to dip in a large wooden paddle and stir the oil back in.  By the 1920’s Joseph Rosefield figured out how to get the fat to stop separating from the peanuts and peanut butter gained momentum.  They say American kids eat 1500 peanut butter sandwiches in their childhood.
