US Naval Air Station Grosse Ile Michigan Matchbook Sticker (MB362)

This was a HUGE air training facility for the US military – George Bush and Bob Barker both got their pilot’s training here.  When the plan to train pilots first began here, there were no planes to use, so the potential pilots trained in a classroom for a while year.  Then they received one plane.  . That was the only plane for another year.  Ultimately there were many aircraft made there, and during the US Depression many of the workers continued to doggedly construct planes without actually receiving pay.  In the 1950’s the site housed Nike Ajax SAM’s to defend the US from Soviet strategic bombers.  The base was also used to rescue people on Lake Erie and the Detroit River, including 17 fishermen who were suddenly stranded during a snowstorm.  I love old military matchcovers, and they are very popular with our customers.  I certainly hope this cover jangled around in a pilot’s pocket.  I hope after flying he jauntily struck a match and leaned his handsome self against his plane and indulged in a nice smoke.

All GypsyFaith die-cut vinyl stickers are printed on glossy, premium, extra thick vinyl.  We then seal the image in clear laminate so that it will be particularly resistant to fading or tearing.  We will only sell the absolute top end of any particular product on our site.  Our intention, as we developed this product, was to make it as durable and valuable as our magnet products.

Images used to make our stickers are scanned at 9600dpi resolution, reduced to 960dpi for production.

It ships in a photo-type mailer to prevent bending.
