Union Pacific Railroad Travel Luggage Sticker (RR1)

This route ran between Iowa and Omaha all the way to San Francisco.  The trip required changing trains, traveled over 1,911 miles (or 3075km) and took around a week until 1906.  Then the electric lit fancy Overland Limited was able to get passengers to San Francisco in 56 hours.  These trips including some very sharp curves and steep grades.  In Wyoming the track, which was modernized at the turn of the century to be a double track, was still only one lane all the way through the tunnel.  The maintenance shacks standing beside the railroad were built out of wood, and routinely caught fire until eventually these were replaced with concrete.  The fee to ride the full route was enormous, $50, which is about $1100 in today’s money.  I LOVE this image with its happy stripes and bold colors.

What’s really cool about these labels is that I got them all from a man in Georgia whose daddy had a hobby, in his offtime, of hopping onto a train and going wherever it went.  He said his father’s passion for rail travel was unmitigated and that his dad spent many happy hours and days traveling via rail in the US at the turn of the century where he collected these travel stickers.  (He also collected matchcovers, which we purchased from his son, too!)

All GypsyFaith die-cut vinyl stickers are printed on glossy, premium, extra thick vinyl.  We then seal the image in clear laminate so that it will be particularly resistant to fading or tearing.  We will only sell the absolute top end of any particular product on our site.  Our intention, as we developed this product, was to make it as durable and valuable as our magnet products.

Images used to make our stickers are scanned at 9600dpi resolution, reduced to 960dpi for production.

SIZE: These stickers are about 3.216 x 3.342 inches OR 8.168 x 8.48 cm before the image is cut out.  Cutting removes a slight bit of the image edge.

It ships in a photo-type mailer to prevent bending.
