Southern Serves the South Southern Railway System Matchbook Sticker (MB115)
I married a man from a old Southern family, and I’m certain that people from his clan rode this railway. I love the big, fat font on this cover, as well as the elusive blue. I also love that “The Southern Serves the South”. The original Southern Railway System line was the longest in the US, running 136 miles between Charleston. South Carolina to Hamburg. South Carolina. The way they were able to run the trains at night, and they were the first to do this, was they loaded a railcar with sand, and then piles pine logs onto the sand. Then they lit the whole thing on fire and it shed enough light for the railcar to operate.
