Paramount Damp Proof Impregnated Safety Matches Soviet Union Matchbook Sticker (MB349)

This is just the loveliest patina on this old matchbox.  I LOVE the kind of spooky pyramids on it and the way the Paramount has this whole line and fade thing going.  It’s also cool that they were manufactured in the Soviet Union.  The term “impregnated” always gets me – it is actually from the historic catalysts.  When you wanted to light a fire, before matches were little bulbus things on wooden sticks, you carried cord that had been saturated in combustible chemicals.  So the cord was referred to as “impregnated” – so the term got transferred.  If one is to be impregnated, it seems to me it’d be WAY more fun for that process to NOT involve scary, flammable chemicals.  I do love the really, really old matchbox covers like this one.  They have a wonderful smell, the papers do, and my whole studio smells like these old paper match covers.

Images used to make our stickers are scanned at 9600dpi resolution, reduced to 960dpi for production.
