McCormick Shipping 4 Big Trade Routes Matchbook Magnet (MM85)
This company was founded by two men – Moore and McCormack. It’s kind of cool that the first product they shipped was a short run of charcoal from Norfolk, Virginia to Searsport Maine. Mainers really need that coal for heat. (Our permanent US home is in Maine.) But then the second cargo was pretty sexy – it was dynamite that traveled all the way to Rio de Janeiro. What I particularly like about Moore McCormick shipping is that they broke international boundaries – bringing connections between the US and other countries that had never opened ports to the United States previously, most notably Russia. So these guys moved goods around the world on the water (Something my family and I rely upon as expats – we travel by container and need a ship every time we move.) – but they also created new connections between people who would otherwise never have met one another. I love this cover, but I made it for my father’s best friend, Uncle Johnny Moore. (No actual connection to the owner of the steamship company.) My Uncle Johnny managed the cargo on container ships from his clubby little office on Long Island. That was back when computers were these gigantic boxes that used code. I hid Johnny’s name in this design someplace – but I’ve forgotten where. My bestie of a lifetime, his daughter, Suzie, and I used to hang out in front of that HUGE computer and watch MTV.
The image you see is exactly what we used to produce the magnet. (We include 1 free GypsyFaith sticker per order.)
All GypsyFaith magnets are double the strength of a normal refrigerator magnet; this magnet will hold several pieces of paper to a surface without sliding. The surface is textured, so it does not scratch. We developed it over a period of several years with our production partner in China. It took us a long, long time to get to this PVC product. Our intention, as we developed this product, was to make it as durable as our handmade magnet products were when we first began selling them more than 14 years ago.
Images used to make our magnets are scanned at 9600dpi resolution, reduced to 960dpi for production.
SIZE: This magnet is exactly 1.835 x 2.362 inches OR 4.66 x 5.999 cm (It is about the size of the original matchcover.)
PACKAGING: This magnet is packaged in a hard plastic container for retail sale, then we place it into the mailer.
It ships in a hand addressed, postage stamped padded mailer.
