Lamar Hotel AA Hilton Prop. Crestview Florida Matchbook Sticker (MB511)

This place was next door to Desi’s, which boasted “the best fried chicken in the city” and sported very happy stripy awnings.  All 46 rooms were built in 1926 right above a hardware store.  The construction was innovative in that it used windows to provide natural light in every room.  This cover is from when it had been sold to the Hilton family, (not of that hotel chain).  The Hiltons added private bathrooms to each room.  A nearby World War 2 training base, Eglin Field, brought soldiers who wanted to play hard to the hotel.  If they played too hard, the owner would allow the soldier to sleep on a cot in the lobby for the night.
