Koffee Kup Geary San Francisco Matchbook Sticker (MB288)

This place was founded in 1924 by an orphan, Martin Ross from New York, who saved all his money from bit work on Coney Island.  He takes his little bit of cash to san Francisco, opens a coffee joint –  serves coffee, soda, baked goods  – because he said, “It’s my hobby”  (How endearing is that!?) .  The Richmond district in San Francisco was a theater district so Ross got a lot of traffic from the audiences – soon the place has expanded and now there’s this huge banquet hall in the back of the restaurant.  By 1929 he’s got enough money, 100,000USD in 1929, right before the stock market crashed.  He buys the lot he’s been renting. Ross has a fabulous, commodious mind.  He hosted the weekly meeting of the Zionist Club – supporting the Jewish community at the Kup, as well as the Striped Bass Club.  Suddenly in his 40’s, Ross is struck with an illness and has only moments left to live – and, as he is dying, rather than bequeath his exceptionally valuable place to his family, he gives 60% interest to two of his employees and the rest of it to charity!  I mean, wow – so, his family tries to thwart the will, but to no avail, though they do succeed in forcing the inheritors to sell the place, which, in a dazzling twist – adds another layer to the history of the Kup.  It gets purchased by Krup, the vaudevillian – his moniker, “The King of Hebrew Monologue” becoming Krup’s Koffee Kup.  So – MANY reasons other than the obvious beauty of this matchcover – to want this image,  It represents some audacious human beings who followed their hearts no matter the cost. All GypsyFaith die-cut vinyl stickers are printed on glossy, premium, extra thick vinyl. We then seal the image in clear laminate so that it will be particularly resistant to fading or tearing. We will only sell the absolute top end of any particular product on our site. Our intention, as we developed this product, was to make it as durable and valuable as our magnet products.

Images used to make our stickers are scanned at 9600dpi resolution, reduced to 960dpi for production.

It ships in a photo-type mailer to prevent bending.
