This hotel has a fantastic history.  A man named Ford, who lost a bet in 1900, had to roll a peanut using only a toothpick form the hotel to another point 1/2 mile (.8km) away.  Women fighting for the right to vote met in its ballroom in 1916.  In 1900 the constable arrested Otto Von Buckow at the hotel, where he was captured after having stolen a watch and a revolver.  In 1909 the hotel served as a hospital when a nearby train derailed.  This sort of place conjures up all of the satisfying romantic connections to life in the West – strong women, wild men, and a community that worked together to solve troubles.
