Chinese Man with Red Flower Matchbook Sticker (MB443)
I lived in China for many years, and my FABULOUS Australian business partner still lives there with his two adorable boys and his totally rocking wife. I loved Chinese characters long before I lived there. The incredible density of Chinese culture had me just swooning, which is why I designed and produced a Feng Shuai toe ring that we sell on our site. China was all I wanted it to be – jammed with truly gargantuan Times Square type ads that illuminated the night ten times more than Vegas, and teetering, magnificent wooden tea houses with fabulous goldfish ponds and women and men practicing the art of tea in such a way that made you wish you were Chinese. It would be impossible for me to describe the depth of the Chinese character or how profoundly misunderstood it is – Chinese people are incredibly embedded in the I Ching, and in Confucius, and most every decision, from childbirth to housing is centered on those philosophies. Having studied them in depth, I find them to be a wealth of wisdom, full of the deepest, paradigm shifting truths. So, that is why, long story longer, I love anything Chinese, and this Mandarin language cover, which of course I can’t read, is gorgeous. I love the man, the green, and the red bloom behind him. During Chinese New Year the whole city, where I lived, and all Chinese cities, blooms red. And you can see dragons and hear drums and it’s glorious. Red is a big, big color in China. During the New Year you have to wear red underpants for luck. My husband and I both acquired red underpants when we lived there, though we quickly had to repurchase as we figured out that Chinese bottoms are MUCH smaller than American ones! (I certainly hope this cover doesn’t sell insurance or something – that’d be a letdown. Maybe someone will translate it for me one day. I’ve many friends who read Mandarin, and my cousin, too, but I think I’ll not impose as I intend to publish lots and lots of Chinese covers.)
